About the workshop

When facilitation gets tough, it is rarely just complex. It is also ambiguous, high-stakes, and full of tension.

This interactive session introduces the original C.A.S.T.™ model (Complexity, Ambiguity, Stakes, Tension) and pairs it with practical systems thinking tools to help facilitators navigate challenging group dynamics with confidence and clarity.

Learn how to map hidden patterns, identify leverage points, and adapt in real time when decisions matter most. Whether you work in strategy, equity, governance, or community engagement, this session will strengthen how you show up and support others in uncertain environments.

Learning Objectives

In this session, participants will:

  • Introduce and apply the C.A.S.T.™ model (Complexity, Ambiguity, Stakes, Tension) to better diagnose and adapt facilitation strategies for uncertain environments.

  • Practice systems thinking tools (e.g., causal loop mapping, leverage point identification) that align with specific C.A.S.T. conditions.

  • Build confidence and flexibility in navigating group processes when tensions are high, clarity is low, and the facilitator’s presence is the stabilising force.

NOTE: This workshop will be recorded for distribution to all who register (breakout rooms will not be recorded).

This is a 90-minute online workshop. It will take place at 12:00pm - 1:30pm EST.
